About this artwork
This city made a huge impression on me. You feel the past very strongly but also the vitality and resilience of the people who live there. The city is a symbol of reconciliation despite the right-wing extremism, which is also very clearly present.
The rebuilding of the Frauenkirche was funded by Germans, Jews from America, British and people around the world. The cross on the church… was made by the son of a British pilot who bombed the city. I myself was raised by parents with a war trauma and I realize that forgiveness is the only way to live together. Often a whole generation goes through this.
In this etching you see different times in one image. The bombed city, the rebuilding of the Frauenkirche and vague in the distance the future. Because there is always a future if we can forgive each other.

« Art is meant to open people's eyes and to look at reality in a different way. To show how beautiful and special something can be, or just to show the madness in which we live. »
