About this artwork
In this watercolor, I was particularly interested in the natural geometry and the colors of the forest. The slender trunks form an almost graphic rhythm within the forest space, which is constantly disrupted by the light and the unusual colors.
Between the green and dark shadows, tree trunks glow in orange, pink, and warm red tones. The light intensifies the colors, making the forest stand out clearly in some places and almost disappear in others.… It was precisely this interplay of order and dissolution that I wanted to capture.
For me, the forest here is not just a landscape, but a geometric space of light, color, and depth – still and yet full of movement. This work belongs to my series Light | Forest | Resonance, in which I explore the special atmosphere of the forest and our emotional connection to it.

Annett Coumont is a contemporary German watercolor artist who lives and works near Cologne. A self-taught artist, she has developed a distinctive visual language that combines naturalistic observation with impressionistic light and a contemporary, biophilic aesthetic.
In her landscapes, she explores the emotional relationship between humanity and nature. Nature appears not as mere scenery, but as a place of memory, resonance, and cultural identity. A key starting point for her work is solastalgia – the grief over the change or loss of a familiar environment. Her watercolors reveal the beauty and fragility of what surrounds us and invite us to rediscover our own connection to nature.
Her works have been selected for international watercolor exhibitions, have received numerous awards, and are held in private collections worldwide.
