About this artwork
A dynamic field of deep blues is cut through by sweeping gestures of white, orange, rust, and black. Layered brushwork creates a sense of movement and tension, while quieter passages of exposed canvas allow the composition to breathe. The contrasting marks move across the surface like currents—colliding, separating, and converging again.
The work explores movement, balance, and the energy created between opposing forces, with the blue ground acting… as both atmosphere and structure. Loose, gestural strokes remain visible throughout, preserving the immediacy of the painting process.

Anthony Cerrato is a self-taught abstract painter from New Jersey who works primarily with acrylic on canvas. His paintings combine spontaneous, sweeping gestures with structured linear frameworks, creating a dynamic interplay between expressive brushwork and architectural form. Through improvisational layering and bold divisions of space, his work explores the tension between instinct and structure, where movement gradually resolves into balance. Cerrato's paintings have been featured in international exhibitions, including The Breath of Kindness at the Castillo Fortaleza (Museum of the Sea) in Santa Pola, Spain. His work invites viewers to experience the moment where chaos begins to organize itself into form.
