About this artwork
A border doesn't just separate, it also connects two sides. Border connections are shown with a dense red and black at the top, and below, separated by a fine line like a bridge, a calmer green and gray. For me, this isn't a break, but a transition that makes both sides visible.
Created using acrylic and mixed media. The fine linear structures run like a grid through the picture, keeping the two color worlds connected without mixing them.

Christel Brandl works abstractly and in series, using acrylics, lime plaster, and mixed media. Over two decades as an occupational therapist taught her to perceive moods and tensions before they could be put into words. She began painting in 2023.
The lime putty cracks, rounds, and dries differently than planned. She incorporates this inherent dynamic into her paintings instead of trying to control it. A recurring motif is the circle, which takes on different forms in her three series: Otherworld, Silent Layers, and Safe & Free: cosmic body, natural structure, inner anchor. The overarching question is how much support a person needs to be truly free.
