About this artwork
In this photograph I seek to capture a moment in which history, light and landscape converse in silence.
The fortification of Catoira, silhouetted against a dramatic sunset over the Ulla River, ceases to be just a defensive ruin and becomes a vulnerable witness to the passage of time.
I am interested in how the light of the sunset, almost theatrical, envelops the stone and the water, transforming a place marked by threat and war into a scene… of contemplation and contained beauty.
The intense color of the sky and its reflections in the river not only describe a landscape: they evoke the memory of what could have been destruction and today persists as identity and collective memory.
This image is part of a personal search from years ago at the end of the pandemic.
I view historical spaces not only as documents of the past, but as living organisms, capable of continuing to generate questions about resistance, fragility, and belonging in the present.
