About this artwork
In Resolution, a familiar and highly charged image is detached from its original event and reconstructed through a rigid field of 1,600 painted dots.
Viewed closely, the composition dissolves into individual circles, subtle shifts of colour, rhythm and repetition. From a distance, these separate marks resolve into a single recognizable form. The image appears only through the viewer’s physical movement away from the painting.
The work occupies… the unstable space between abstraction and representation. It considers how reality is translated into images, and how those images eventually become signs that can circulate independently from the events that produced them.
The bullet hole is therefore not presented primarily as evidence of violence. It becomes an image about images, a visual form that is simultaneously immediate, familiar and strangely detached.

« With my dots I'd like to convey that like us, each dot is different, but together we become something whole. »
Dimitri Likissas is an accomplished painter and sculptor from Sint Maarten who has exhibited his work across the US. The central element of his work is a pattern of separated, colored, round dots whereby an image becomes visible depending on the viewer's distance to the work. His principal technique is oil alkyd paint on canvas, and his signature style minimalist but layered.
