About this artwork
It carried a hidden history, perhaps as a forgotten book. Suddenly, I heard a faint song about red poppies and a red-haired girl—like "Poppy girl from old fairy tales. In that moment of transformation, the box found a new life, and this sustainable picture was born.
This artwork is painted directly on a reclaimed cardboard box, embracing the character and history of the original material rather than concealing it. The surface is partially covered… with delicate rice paper, creating subtle textures and relief that become an integral part of the composition. Instead of hiding the folds, marks, and imperfections of the cardboard, I worked with them, allowing them to guide the creative process and become part of the artwork’s identity.
The image was built gradually through multiple layers of paint and mixed media, enriched with gold leaf details. The edges are finished in gold, while the reverse is carefully painted black, giving the piece a refined and elegant appearance.
