About this artwork
My oil on linen painting “Griffith Park Observatory” is set on Mount Hollywood with the 1935 Art Deco observatory in the near distance. This civic monument dedicated to public astronomy rises majestically against a vibrant, saturated pink and magenta sky. In the far background, the faint, shimmering towers of the Downtown Los Angeles skyline peek through the atmospheric haze. In the foreground, a figure walks briskly towards a classic, light blue…
1959 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. The ‘59 Chevy, which is rendered in loose, expressive strokes of light blue and white, catches the reflections of the pink sky and the observatory's floodlights. By blurring the walking figure and the classic sports car, my painting hints at the transience of human life and material design against the monumental permanence of the observatory and the cosmic timescales of the stars above. On exhibit at Band of Vices and Helms Design District in Los Angeles - Streets, Structures & Stories. Opens June 27, 2026
