More than a psychological portrait, this painting seeks to capture the atmosphere of a shared moment: the warmth of the air, the movement of leaves above the terrace, and the discreet presence of a person absorbed in their own work.
The contrasting light and free brushstrokes evoke a sensory experience as much as a representation.… The figure then becomes inseparable from the space surrounding it, the moving shadows, and the silence that inhabits the scene.
