About this artwork
“Amelia” was created by Alejandro Urioste from a simple idea: a face can hold the complete presence of a person. Its title refers to the congenital condition known as amelia, characterized by the absence of one or more limbs. The work, however, does not approach this condition through absence. Instead, it directs attention to what remains whole and deeply expressive: the face.
Using his two-dimensional metal sculpture technique, Alejandro builds… this presence through mesh, transparency, layered forms, and voids. Each element shapes a serene yet resolute expression that holds the viewer’s gaze.
In “Amelia,” a complete body is not necessary to encounter the person. Her identity emerges through her features and, above all, her eyes, where beauty, sensitivity, and character converge. The face is enough to perceive her as whole and to establish a connection that transcends any condition.

Credentials
- Works on commission
Alejandro and Jorge Urioste are Bolivian brothers and artists whose distinct yet complementary paths share a family-rooted creative sensitivity. Each retains his own voice and authority.
Alejandro, born in 1980, is a self-taught artist with an exceptional ability to transform materials, objects, and ideas into art. His practice includes painting and drawing, but is defined above all by his signature two-dimensional metal sculptures. Built with mesh, wire, layered forms, and voids, this distinctive technique has known few parallels in contemporary art.
Jorge, born in 1978 and trained in architecture, brings a refined understanding of space, form, and composition to photography and applied arts. Through sensory photography, he discovers poetic beauty in overlooked places, revealing precious images where they might otherwise go unnoticed. Its development also includes specialized courses and participation in contemporary art and photography exhibitions.
