About this artwork
Last February, I visited the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris for the Gerhard Richter exhibition — an artist who remains an important source of inspiration for me, due to his investigative approach and the wide range of styles he masters, from figuration to abstraction.
During the visit, I photographed numerous details. Back in my studio, I selected a fragment from one of his abstract works as a starting point for this piece. I began experimenting… digitally, combining details from his work and merging them with one of my Magnolia photos in Photoshop.
I was particularly drawn to the yellow tones, which led me to combine them with gold, while exploring a sense of movement reminiscent of Richter's work.
The work is created on a 150 × 150 cm aluminium 3D linen canvas and presented in a custom-made floating frame — 6 cm deep, in a subtle oak tone with a taupe interior — making the gold

Karin Vermeer is an independent artist who has lived and worked in Rotterdam since 2002. Her works are created by digitally combining and editing photographs and paintings into new, original works of art. Vermeer specializes in portraits created by overlaying and blending four to five different faces, of different race and origin, to create a new, non existing person. The digital images are printed and paint is added to achieve the final result: an attempt to make a digital image tangible once again.
