About this artwork
This work explores identity stripped of social superstructures through a mirror-portal. On the outside, the real limbs display the coherent facade we present to the world; on the inside, reality is radically inverted into a chaotic reflection, mediated by a fogged glass and a capsized chair that reveal our defenses and an unstable balance.
In place of the face, a grapefruit embodies—with its bitter aftertaste—the brutal honesty and bitter truths… required by self-knowledge. Around it, flowers celebrate the beauty blooming from chaos and our own impermanence, while a shadow on the right represents an unresolved inner heaviness. The entire scene is immersed in a deep, metaphysical blue—an timeless void that protects this intimate journey like amniotic fluid, inviting us to embrace our most authentic complexity.
Krystsina Losik, a painter with a background in Multimedia Arts and Interior Design, primarily uses acrylics, blending Belarusian and Italian experience. Her technique embraces magical and symbolic realism through a contemporary style rich in color contrasts, ornamental details, and suspended atmospheres; the centrality of the female body as an archetype dominates each work. Her canvases evoke profound emotions, shrouded in mystery, strength, and vulnerability, becoming silent mirrors in which each viewer can reflect themselves and compare their own light and shadow.
