About this artwork
Fiery Sunset is an original abstract sunset painting — 16" x 20", oil on canvas — by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.
The painting captures the dramatic energy of a glowing sunset reflected across water. Layers of vibrant orange, crimson, magenta, and deep blue create a luminous horizon where sky and reflection merge in sweeping movement. Rich palette-knife textures and layered color give the surface depth and expressive… energy.
Inspired by the changing light of sunset and the emotional power of color, the composition evokes the moment when the sky ignites before nightfall. The textured brushwork and dynamic color transitions create a sense of movement, reflection, and atmosphere.
Fiery Sunset brings warmth, intensity, and color into modern interiors and works beautifully as a statement painting in contemporary living spaces.

Featured in Architectural Digest (Excellence in Design 2026, DC Metro Top 100 Industry Leaders), Maria-Victoria Checa is a Washington, DC–based contemporary artist working in oil and acrylic on large-scale canvas.
She creates two distinct bodies of work: luminous impressionist landscapes — water reflections, flower fields, and imagined natural environments filled with bold color and expressive texture — and bold non-representational abstracts that emphasize movement, energy, and dynamic composition.
Her work has been recognized by Modern Luxury ("10 Emerging Artists to Follow") and has appeared at the French Embassy in Washington, DC. A commissioned painting hangs in the Waldorf Astoria Chicago, and two water lily paintings are installed at Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in DC.
