About this artwork
Cracked is a deeply textured work, almost a bas-relief, in which the surface becomes a place of tension, movement, and transformation. Created on wood, it features a layered and fractured structure that evokes a material marked by time and the forces of nature.
The lower section features a striking image of a seascape during a storm: the rough sea seems to capture and reflect the tension of the sky, while lightning bolts and cracks pierce the surface… and seem to fall directly into the water. The distinction between real landscape and abstract matter is deliberately suspended, leaving room for personal interpretation.
The cracks thus become a metaphor for a fracture, but also for transformation and resilience. Light, encountering the various roughnesses of the surface, generates shadows and shifting depths, making the work appear different depending on the distance and vantage point.
