This painting invites the viewer to reflect on the beauty and strength found in nature’s most elemental moments. The image is from a place in the townland of Kilgalligan in County Mayo Ireland that the locals aptly call "Stormy Head". The wind and intermittent horizontal rains made it impossible to paint en plein air this day, so I had to take a photograph and work from that. And yet, in spite of the intensity of the weather, there in sky one can…
see the sun behind two translucent strips of an otherwise dark sky, implying that at any time, it might break into a beautiful sunny day. It didn't in this case, and I heard it rarely does.
