About this artwork
One of a pair of images created during the Venice Biennale of 2003 and first exhibited at the "Transient States" exhibition as part of the "Deptford X" exhibition in London in 2004. The two images formed part of our exhibition celebrating Venice as a 'bridge' between sky and water, East and West, together with a quotation about what constitutes a bridge by Italo Calvino in 'Invisible Cities'. elements we adpated to metaphorise Venice: The grey green floor for the colour of canal water; the water pipe and its three 'bridges' for the Grand Canal, (which had three bridges over it at the time). We made our own 'bridge' to match the three others (paint colour was in fact the same, but the flash has made it bright blue) Being digital, the images can be printed in various sizes, on canvas (framed) or on paper (unframed). Kenneth Hay is an accomplished visual artist working across painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and digital media, with a richly academic and international background. Ex-Head of Fine Art at the University of Leeds UK and Professor of Aesthetics, Brno, he trained in Leeds, The Accademia in Florence and the University of Wales. As a writer, he publishes widely on art and aesthetics. With Seetha A, he formed Moorland Productions creative collaboration and together they produce joint work, projects and exhibitions. As artists, their work is grounded in figurative traditions but fluidly traverses abstraction, conceptual series, and diverse historical and cultural styles, choosing each medium and visual language to suit specific themes. Their artworks are layered with intellectual rigour and formal beauty, conveying a thoughtful dialectic between content and form, and evoking both curiosity and deep emotional resonance in viewers willing to engage with their complexity.
