About this artwork
I painted “Windy Day and the Sea” at a moment when the elements seemed to be speaking to me in a raised voice. The wind bent the roofs of the houses, stretching their shapes, and I deliberately emphasized this with sharp, thick brushstrokes. I wanted everything on the canvas to move — the sky, the sand, even the walls themselves.
I painted the sea with particular passion: the heavy, impasto layers convey the roar of the waves and the salty spray.… I was not striving for precision — what mattered more was the feeling of wind against my face and tension in the air. This is not just a landscape, but my dialogue with the elements — vivid, restless, and honest.

Nicolai Ostapenco is an experienced painter from Moldova whose works have been featured in solo shows internationally.
