About this artwork
"Cocoon of Safety" is an intimate, deeply emotional oil painting that captures a quiet, fleeting moment of profound peace amidst the uncertainties of the world. Set inside a dimly lit train carriage speeding through the night, a mother and her two children sleep soundly, wrapped in each other's arms. The deep blue tones of the passing night outside the window contrast with the warm, gentle light illuminating the figures inside, creating a sanctuary…
of love and protection.
This work explores the universal theme of maternal shelter—how love can transform even the most transient and vulnerable spaces into an impenetrable fortress of safety. The classical realism approach, with its careful attention to light, shadow, and authentic human emotion, draws the viewer into a shared moment of tenderness and quiet resilience.

Credentials
- Works on commission
I am Elena Kuzenko (Olena Kuzenko), a Ukrainian contemporary oil painter based in Odesa. Rooted in classical realism, my practice combines a strong knowledge of anatomy, color, light, and shadow with an emotional approach to figurative painting.
My work explores the fragility of human feelings, family bonds, inner balance, and the search for safety in an uncertain world. Living through the war in Ukraine has deepened my interest in how people preserve hope, dignity, and compassion during times of crisis. Through symbolic images and visual narratives, I seek to invite reflection while retaining beauty and light.
My work has been presented by ArtSeen, Clover Gallery, Visual Art Journal, and Arty Rat Magazine. I received a Winner Diploma at the XX International Art Festival MALUY.UA in Kyiv and was selected for The Big Book of Painters 2026 by Arts to Hearts Project. My paintings were also selected for physical exhibitions in Barcelona and Budapest in 2026.
