About this artwork
This painting, titled "APOLLO," begins the "THE FOREIGN BODY" collection. It is the first work in the collection. It establishes the characteristics that I have developed throughout the rest of the collection. which culture is built upon a "lack" or incompleteness of meaning, upon a structural incongruity that could, in fact, be signified by any other everyday object. APOLLO is one of my favorite paintings, for its evocative power, for its ability to captivate the viewer, for the composition of a deconstructed body that nevertheless maintains anatomical coherence, for its eroticism, and for the integration of the coffee pot in a foreshortening that is both impossible and plausible within the work itself.
