About this artwork
A childhood memory of a wonderful place called "Tank Hill" growing up in Hidden Hills, CA.
This was a place on top of a hill that all of the neighborhood children wood meet and play and run through the fields with complete freedom and dreams of every possibility. We would stay there until dusk, bathed in golden light it symbolized comfort, hope, and dreams.
Paula Menchen is a British-born visual artist working in painting and printmaking, with a rich background from Otis Art Institute of Parsons and Parsons School of Design, plus advanced printmaking residencies. She fuses traditional Western techniques with Japanese Mokuhanga, using methods like sanding, burning, stenciling, and collage to create vibrant, tactile landscapes. Her compositions layer abstraction with nuanced textures, embodying both deconstruction and preservation. Through her multi-sensory processes, she conveys ethereal atmospheres, nostalgia, and the emotional memory of home—inviting viewers to connect visually and viscerally with ideas of belonging and transformation.
