About this artwork
Painted in 1985, this work is an image of endurance and renewal. A group of tall, almost crystalline forms rises from the deep blue ground, suggesting a city, a landscape or perhaps something entirely imagined. Their pointed roofs seem to reach upward, while the warm reds, ochres and soft pinks create a sense of warmth and human presence.
The composition feels both architectural and symbolic. The forms stand close together, as if they have survived… something and are now facing a new horizon. The intense blue surrounding them gives the painting an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
The long road may be understood literally or metaphorically. What matters is the movement from difficulty toward possibility: after what has been endured, something new can begin.

Reinhard Stammer is a German painter whose work bridges Art Brut and Neo-Expressionism, shaped by philosophy, music, and theatre. Through gestural marks, earthy greys, visceral reds, figures, and symbols, he creates emotionally charged paintings that balance raw intensity with contemplative stillness.
Born in 1952 in Glücksburg, Germany, Stammer followed an unconventional path, finding his artistic education in lived experience rather than at an academy. His work is marked by honesty, existential depth, and authenticity.
He values his paintings not by size, but by their artistic significance within the evolution of his oeuvre. Some works mark decisive breakthroughs or define entire periods of his development. His pricing reflects this conviction: collectors acquire not only a painting, but a unique moment in an artistic journey.
Since 2025, Stammer has been a member of AVAM.
