About this artwork
The figure of a Japanese woman, dressed with references to bullfighting, creates an unexpected crossing of cultural identities. It is not presented as a portrait, but as a displaced image that loses stability through the painting process.
The surface intervenes and wears the figure down: veils, drags and layered marks interrupt its clarity, leaving traces of change and accident. The image remains, but never fully settles.
Rather than closing meaning,… the work holds a state of tension between presence and disappearance, where the figure continues to shift.

Roberto Gutiérrez Currás (1974, Seville, Spain) is a painter based in Marbella, represented by Galería Nítido.
She has held solo exhibitions in Spain and Mexico, including at the Ralli Museum (Marbella) and the Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa (Mexico). Her work has been presented internationally in New York, Paris, Shanghai, and Mexico City.
