“Opus XVIII – Architectonic Mosaic” unfolds like a luminous architectural panel suspended in the dark. The entire canvas is first grounded in deep black, then enriched with a layered underpainting of violet modeling paste, creating a tactile base that shimmers beneath the surface. Across this field, ninety-six individual squares form a strict geometric grid, each one hosting a unique relief pattern… applied with stencils and modeling paste.
These raised motifs are then finished in a carefully balanced palette of metallic bronze, copper, and silver, with selective touches of white to break the monotony and draw the eye from a distance. Together, they evoke the feeling of an intricate mosaic or decorative wall tapestry – a fusion of structure, ornament and light.
“Architectonic Mosaic” sits at the intersection of design and abstraction: a disciplined grid that holds within it a multitude of small variations, rhythms and energies.
