About this artwork
In my painting "The War of the Worlds" I tried to visually convey the decline and vanishing of great civilisations and their cultures, once at their peak and now doomed to downfall. The antique head is a symbol
of Europe, its history, philosophy, art and science that have been created since antiquity. It lies on the ground as a helpless witness of devastation, part of the ruins. This image is a reminder that even the greatest achievements of mankind,… are subject to decline and disappearance. The red sunset in the background is not just the end of the day, but a metaphor for the sunset of an era, the destruction of an order that seemed eternal. I invite the viewer to reflect on the eternal cycle of cultural changes and how each generation contributes to this process. We who live at this particular moment of history must realise that we are not only heirs to a great culture, but we can be both its builders and its destroyers.

Yaroslav Kurbanov is a painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, in Italy, Russia, Czechia, Finland, the United States, Mexico, China, and the Netherlands. His art attempts to answer the eternal questions of the origins of self, the meaning of one's life, and the essence of happiness and love. Kurbanov's compositions also explore loyalty and betrayal, fear and composure, as well as the discrepancies between the inner world and the external image.
