About this artwork
Ella's Song is my tribute to the women whose voices shaped the soundtrack of generations. Rather than painting a portrait of a specific singer, I wanted to capture the feeling of becoming music itself. Her hair transforms into flowing rhythms, carrying musical notes that suggest every song, memory, and emotion she has ever shared.
As I painted, I layered rich purples, burgundies, and deep blacks to evoke the atmosphere of a late-night jazz club,… while warm skin tones and bold red lips became the visual heartbeat of the composition. The textured surface, mixed-media musical notes, and distressed background reflect my interest in memory—how music leaves traces that remain with us long after the final note has faded.
For me, jazz has always been more than entertainment. It is resilience, storytelling, improvisation, and cultural memory. Through Ella's Song, I wanted to honor the beauty, strength, and quiet power of Black women whose voices continue to echo across generations.

My roots in African American and Puerto Rican heritage infuse my vibrant styles with vibrant cultural storytelling. My work weaves together contemporary abstraction, urban folk narrative, and Afro-Caribbean symbolism. My working class parents were both creative people, he was an aspiring screenwriter, she was an aspiring fashion designer, they raised me in East Harlem NYC. I was a shy, introverted child with a lot of imagination. By my early twenties I worked my way through fashion and art school. Painting since I was 15, 40 years later I'm finally comfortable in my creativity and have devoted myself to exploring subjects and topics of interest to me. I'm neurodivergent so my styles vary, greatly. What brings me joy is knowing that I am contributing beauty and a piece of my heritage to those sophisticated enough to appreciate it. I have 3 cats, I also write novels and I'm working on an art book of my work to debut next year. My official studio site is : www.greenview-art-studio.com
