About this artwork
In *Sunny Side of the Street*, I translate the feeling of walking through Harlem on a bright afternoon into geometry and color. Instead of painting the neighborhood literally, I break the city into shifting planes—blocks of warm yellow, deep umber, and soft browns that suggest sunlight bouncing off brick, windows, and pavement.
The composition leans and intersects slightly off balance, echoing the rhythm of the streets themselves. Buildings, shadows,… and sidewalks become angled shapes that overlap like musical chords. I was thinking about how sunlight moves through a city block, how it warms the walls, catches a window edge, and turns an ordinary street corner into something quietly radiant.
The title borrows from the spirit of the classic jazz standard, a phrase that suggests optimism and movement forward. In this painting, the “sunny side” is not just a place—it’s a perspective.

My roots in African American and Puerto Rican heritage infuse my vibrant styles with vibrant cultural storytelling. My work weaves together contemporary abstraction, urban folk narrative, and Afro-Caribbean symbolism. My working class parents were both creative people, he was an aspiring screenwriter, she was an aspiring fashion designer, they raised me in East Harlem NYC. I was a shy, introverted child with a lot of imagination. By my early twenties I worked my way through fashion and art school. Painting since I was 15, 40 years later I'm finally comfortable in my creativity and have devoted myself to exploring subjects and topics of interest to me. I'm neurodivergent so my styles vary, greatly. What brings me joy is knowing that I am contributing beauty and a piece of my heritage to those sophisticated enough to appreciate it. I have 3 cats, I also write novels and I'm working on an art book of my work to debut next year. My official studio site is : www.greenview-art-studio.com
