Martin Johan Härd, born in 1958, is a Swedish painter. HIs expressive and vibrantly colourful canvases explore notions of human relationships in regard to others and to the world around us.
Profound Musings in Paint
For Härd, painting can be a representation of the present, an assessment of the past or a glimpse in to the future. Painting is able to capture the ephemeral and often indescribable sensations of emotion, lived experience, memory. Härd believes art can be both corporeal and earthly but is also able to explore notions of the spiritual and unknown, providing some solace for us in the complex and often unknowable universe.
Härd, works with a variety of mediums and explores the different material qualities of oil, acrylic, gouache and drawing. The relationship between man and his surroundings is explored through the bold, saturated and often clashing colours, showing the contentions linked to our very existence.
Härd, has exhibited extensively, in both group and solo shows across Europe and in the United States and the West Indies. His works belong to a number of private and public collections worldwide, including the Nordic Heritage Museum in the United States and the Landskrona Museum in Sweden.
