About this artwork
In Korean tradition, paradise is often described as Mureungdowon — an idyllic land from ancient literature where peach blossoms once bloomed in perfection, a heavenly and ideal place.
This painting imagines the world after the blossoms have fallen, when lush peaches hang heavy on the trees. A joyful girl envisions this orchard, while Benji, stepping through a golden gate and descending stairs from another realm, enters the landscape of her unconscious.…
The work symbolizes the journey toward the inner self. It suggests that happiness does not come from the outside but quietly waits within, ready to be recognized and embraced.
« "The world we live in is not always beautiful. But we may all possess the dream of being beautiful, still and peaceful. My works reflect what I want to see and feel." »
