About this artwork
Catharsis unfolds like an emotional release made visible. Dense cascades of black pour from the top edge, anchoring the composition with a weight that feels almost gravitational. Beneath them, eruptions of red, ochre, yellow, green, and white collide, drip, and fracture, as if layers of feeling have been pulled to the surface all at once.
The vertical flows suggest both collapse and liberation — a descent that is also a cleansing. Gestural splashes… and restless textures record the urgency of the body in motion, turning the canvas into a field where tension is not resolved quietly, but expelled.
Rather than depicting a specific narrative, Catharsis embodies a state: the moment when inner pressure breaks open and transforms into raw, physical presence. The painting does not soothe — it purifies through intensity.

Laura Buruiana is a multidisciplinary artist and internationally acclaimed concert cellist of Romanian origin, based in France — a cellist by day and a painter by night.
