About this artwork
Gold obsidian on bronze
Obsidians are volcanic rock glass. They are available in different colors. This one is a black gemstone that shimmers golden depending on the light.
A torso is the capture of beauty based on ancient models. At the same time, the question arises as to how much liveliness and expression is possible through body language without the help of head, hands, arms, legs.
Stone and bronze are combined in an unusual combination… of sculpture and plastic that merges almost seamlessly. This creates a dramatic tension, a kind of polarity. The sculpture is unique, a piece of jewelery to set up.

« Whatever the material, form or approach, one topic always remains paramount: the human being. »
The path of German painter and sculptor Stefanie von Quast led from studies in painting and graphic design to training in sculpture and bronze casting. She utilizes a variety of techniques and materials to seamlessly transition between painting and sculpture, with particular attention to color, drawing, and surface texture. The focus is on the human being from a unique, positive perspective. Body language and posture intuitively reflect the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.
For several years now, she has been painting using mixed media on thin stone slabs, blending the stone's natural grain with the painting. This represents a further step toward merging painting and sculpture. In her sculptures, special techniques create a harmonious blend of stone and bronze.
She has been working as a freelance artist for over 30 years, with regular exhibitions, art fairs and numerous commissions.
