Joanna Wietrzycka, with her inspiration from interior and fashion design background, is sharing the concept of her new art project with Singulart and explaining the interesting upcycling method.
What is your newest series?
Revival – upcycling abstract series
What was or is the inspiration or concept behind this new series or exhibition?
This is a collection of paintings made using recycled fabrics. Through the process of upcycling, they gain new life. By using recycled materials, the painting not only refers to the theme of ecology and sustainability but also conveys a deeper message of transformation and rebirth. The process of upcycling also reflects a larger social context, emphasizing the need to seek alternative ways of using resources and reducing waste.
What’s the message behind your new series or exhibition?
Working as a fashion designer, I witnessed how much waste is produced in the production of clothing. Moreover, so many clothes are thrown away. We don’t have to do that.
Fortunately, more and more artists are reusing them, creating wonderful works. In the spirit of upcycling and as a sign of protest against fast fashion, I also decided to use leftover fabrics to create a new series of paintings.
Is there a particular piece in the series that you’re most fond of? Why?
„Waves of Revival” – it’s a part of the series made up of scraps of fabrics composed together. These works inspire us to look into our interiors, encouraging us to extract and organize what is hidden, what lies unused somewhere at the bottom in the recesses of our souls. By putting it back together, we give new meaning, creating a completely new, inspiring value.
How would you recommend a visitor to experience your creation?
If you love art, support the 0 waste movement, care about our planet, and would like to contribute even in a small way to protecting the environment, I invite you to familiarize yourself with the paintings from my latest upcycling series, “Revival”.
What kind of engagement or interaction do you hope to have with your audience? (Or what did you have?)
You can see the „Revival” series of paintings for now on my Instagram account. They will be available for sale soon. We can do a lot with small steps.
What’s next for you? Are you already working on a new series or project?
I am working on a new project that will be a continuation of the “Revival” series and an extension of the upcycling theme.
