Oksana Salminen combines realism with touches of abstraction, transforming landscapes and waterscapes into cheerful works of art. This article will take us through her newest exhibition — EARTH, SKY AND SEA, and understand the inspiration behind this series.
What is your newest exhibition?
In October there will be several exhibitions in which I take part – EARTH, SKY AND SEA – Square Foot Show, MIXING IDENTITIES – INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR in Venice, Italy
What was or is the inspiration or concept behind this new exhibition?
The Earth, Sky & Sea show will feature 12×12″ originals. The theme is earth, sky, and sea, focusing on landscapes and seascapes.
The concept of MIXING IDENTITIES Art Fair is based on the reconstruction of new identities: their transformation is essential to facing the changes of the contemporary world. The event focuses on the human body as a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality, a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression.
What’s the message behind your new exhibition?
Earth, Sea, and Sky exhibition – We are surrounded by beautiful nature, which we overlook since we are in our lives’ continuous and swift movement.
The second exhibition reflects that the process of constructing oneself involves an ongoing relationship with the identities of other people and the identities of communities, cultures, and societies.
What’s your personal highlight of the latest exhibition?
When I create landscapes or seascapes, I encourage viewers to stop and pay attention to the incredible beauty that the nature that surrounds us creates.
Moreover, is there a particular piece in the series that you’re most fond of? Why?
In the MIXING IDENTITIES Exhibition are participating my figurative works. It was exciting to create them as they depict my daughter and have a special meaning for me.
If you encountered any challenges during your latest exhibition, how did you manage to tackle and overcome them?
Creating a series of small 12×12″ scenes for the Earth Sky & Sea exhibition was exciting and challenging, as I have been working on medium to large canvases lately. However, it is an exciting switch that helps hone skills and expand artistic capabilities.
How would you recommend a visitor to experience your creation?
I recommend stopping, pausing, and noticing nature’s beauty and attractiveness, which surrounds us. We need to pay attention, observe, and preserve it more.
What kind of engagement or interaction do you hope to have with your audience?
I hope to share my love for beautiful waterscapes and landscapes with my audience.
What’s next for you? Are you already working on a new series or project?
The following exhibitions are in the second part of October and November in Berlin, Germany, and Milan, Italy. I am looking forward to participating in them with my seascape series.
