Can you introduce yourselves and what you do for a living?
We’re Chris and Julia, and together, we run Chris Loves Julia, our home design platform. Julia has been blogging for over 13 years, sharing home projects, design tips, and inspiration. Chris handles the practical side of things—building, renovating, and figuring out how to make projects work. We both love creating spaces that feel intentional, and through our platform, we encourage others to do the same.

How would you describe your design style?
We describe our style as moody, modern, and traditional. We complement each other by balancing form and function. Julia focuses on the aesthetics, making sure everything looks beautiful, while Chris works out how it all comes together. It’s a blend of our strengths—one can’t work without the other.

Tell us about your living space. What does your home say about you?
We live in a brick Colonial in Cary, North Carolina. We moved here from Idaho for the warmer weather and to create a home that fits our family’s lifestyle. Our home is a reflection of who we are—it’s warm, inviting, and full of bold choices. We’ve mixed classic elements with modern updates, and every room tells a story through its design and the art we’ve chosen.

How do you incorporate art into your space?
Art is a huge part of our home. Julia has always been drawn to abstract art because it invites interpretation, and Chris loves how art can set the tone for a space. We’re very intentional about the pieces we collect—each one adds to the mood we want in that room. Our home is a blend of art, design, and personal touches that tell our family’s story.

Do you have a favorite piece of art in your collection?
It’s hard to choose just one! Right now, we’re really enjoying the Diana Brambila abstract in our living room. It changes with the light and seasons, which keeps it interesting. We also love the Caleb Mahoney piece in our bedroom—it has a calming effect that’s perfect for the space.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their journey as an art collector?
Our advice is to start with pieces that really speak to you emotionally. Don’t worry about whether it matches your décor—focus on how it makes you feel. Prints are a great way to discover your style, and as your collection grows, you’ll start to connect with certain artists or styles. Most importantly, choose art that brings life and personality into your home.
