From Romantic origins—when pointe work shaped the illusion of weightlessness—to neoclassical and contemporary stages, the foot becomes a drawing instrument: line extended, axis sharpened, breath held in suspension. Across painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media, artists register the shimmer of bourrées, the attack of piqués, the quiet tremor of a sustained balance. Close-ups trace satin, rosin, and strain; long exposures translate motion into light; charcoal and impasto score the body’s geometry.
