Heart Work - curated by Natalie Slater

A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - Hearts are everywhere. On greeting cards, on protest signs, in text messages, carved into desks. The shape is universally legible and completely abstract — anatomically inaccurate, emotionally precise. ‘Heart Work’ is a curation that brings together artists who treat the heart less as a cliché and more as a device. Across painting, collage, resin, and mixed media, the motif is multiplied, fractured, flattened, inflated, gridlocked, swallowed by color, or pushed into near-obsession. Some works lean graphic and pop — crisp outlines, repeating icons, saturated fields. Others distort the symbol until it becomes unstable: melting, grinning, layered, overwhelmed. What’s compelling here isn’t sentiment. It’s elasticity. The heart survives repetition. It survives irony. It survives maximalism. It can hold sincerity and sarcasm at once. In this selection, the heart becomes surface, pattern, architecture, even atmosphere. A shorthand that refuses to stay simple.
