A curation by Natalie Slater, Curator at Singulart - In this curatorial selection, text doesn’t sit beside the figure — it moves through it.
Sometimes it’s immediate. You read before you look. The words take over the surface, cutting across faces, bodies, backgrounds. Other times, it’s slower — half-hidden, barely there, something you catch after the fact.
The figure holds, but not entirely on its own.
What’s written begins to redirect how the body is seen — or replaces it altogether. A sentence can flatten expression, sharpen it, or speak where the figure refuses to.
There’s no fixed order.
You don’t always know which arrives first — the image or what it’s trying to say.
Either way, you end up reading both.
