1987年出生於加拿大安大略省漢密爾頓市。多年來，大衛一直堅持創作，參加安大略省各地的評審展覽，展出他自學的畫作。他的藝術生涯迎來轉機，一位畫框師將他介紹到多倫多寫實藝術學院。這所學院擁有極高的現實主義藝術標準，其課程體係以威廉·布格羅開創的19世紀法國學院派繪畫體系為基礎。

這種基礎訓練為他日後轉型進入要求嚴苛的超寫實領域奠定了基礎。在超寫實主義繪畫中，畫家們一絲不苟地捕捉描繪對象錯綜複雜的細節，往往需要數週才能完成一幅作品。為了創造一種完全獨特的構圖風格，他在2021年開始創作一系列以眼睛為主題的畫作，畫面中花朵環繞，並運用了三角棱鏡的光影效果。大衛謝潑德對超寫實主義的精湛技藝已成功地將他的作品推向了國際舞台。
