« A medida que el polvo se asienta sobre una superficie dada, comienza a transformar esa superficie en una especie de dibujo. Cuando hago una escultura en polvo, levanto ese dibujo y lo remodelamos. »
La fascinación de Paul Hazelton por el polvo se originó por la privación de estas formas de materia que a menudo no se aprecian. Criado en un hogar prístino, al artista visual británico solo se le permitió dibujar con un lápiz en el entorno estéril de una mesa cubierta, donde incluso el polvo de su lápiz de grafito se frotó y limpió rápidamente. Estas partículas prohibidas más tarde preocuparían su práctica.
