Acerca de la obra
Painted in two stages, 'Sendero' brings together South American landscapes with the multicoloured Wiphala flag woven into the landscape — a symbol associated with Indigenous peoples of the Andes and increasingly recognised as a symbol of resistance.
The work reflects the ongoing displacement of Indigenous communities from ancestral lands in north-west Argentina, where mining interests have brought renewed conflict over territory and resources.
But… 'Sendero' also carries a more personal metaphor. The path towards a summit — whether a mountain or a personal aspiration — does not always require force or struggle. Sometimes the way forward is found through ease, lightness and grace, like the effortless flight of a butterfly carried by the wind.
