Acerca de la obra
This painting was worked from photographs of local landscapes. The trees, for example, were an avenue of eucalyptus’s lining the road outside my house, subsequently cut down by the local council. On countless occasions I used to watch the moon rising up through the branches of the eucalyptus, reflecting the light of the setting sun, and thereby creating a sense of limbo between night and day.
To the left of the composition is a magpie locally… called an Urraca, photographed while visiting the Iguazú waterfalls in the northeast of Argentina. The bird looks out of the scene, seemingly questioning the viewer. To the centre of the painting, there is a couple facing one another, symbolising a harmonic relationship similar to the symbol of the yin and yang. In the foreground, a hummingbird momentarily hovers before darting away. I often include hummingbirds as metaphors of freedom and offer a feeling of enchantment.
