The German artist Jodd von Schaffstein was born in Saterland in 1944 under his real name, Heinz Jürgen Jankowsky. Today the painter lives and works in Berlin.
Inspired by the informal
Jodd von Schaffstein completed his training as a film poster and advertising painter between 1959 and 1963, whereafter he studied free painting at the Werkkunstschule in Dortmund from 1964 to 1966. He has always been interested in the German informal. His current works are rough and worlds of imagery, often created from natural materials.Lire la suite
Founder of the Transformal Painting
In 1996, Valerio Deho', an art critic from Bologna, described Jodd von Schaffstein's work as "Transformational Painting". Jodd von Schaffstein's creates his works with ash, stone dust, shellac, graphite, charcoal or pigment dust. He is also known to use rock dust at times, which he obtains from pulverized limestone and sandstone, which he brings back with him from his work stays in Mallorca, southern France and Italy, or even directly incorporates into his pictures right there.
Jodd von Schaffstein has regularly exhibited his works in numerous solo and group exhibitions since 1984. Represented in collections and museums such as the State Polish Museum Majdanek in Poland and the State Museum Petrozavodsk in Russia. Participation in 22 art fairs throughout Europe, South America and the USA. Other venues included Berlin, Bonn, Aachen, Cologne, Hamburg, Dortmund (Germany), Mallorca (Spain), Vienna (Austria), Ascona (Switzerland), Toulouse, Paris (France), Ghent (Belgium), Miami, New York (USA) and London (England).Masquer
