I started this painting after the beginning of a relationship in South Carolina. It is much calmer and more cerebral than Carnaval in Rio. From the beginning, it was difficult to put together, but yet fascinating. Other artists loved looking at the work in progress; it gave them ideas or questions for their work too. The first stage was in the application of texture, using thick white gesso. Then came choices for various images; for this, I used…
some student art work that interested me. The final decisions were made in France, using all of the elements. Here, the color is more nuanced, not as bright and flamboyant as Carnaval.
