저는 그림을 그릴 때 미리 구상한 아이디어나 예측 가능한 결과를 가지고 시작하는 경우가 거의 없습니다. 미지의 영역과 씨름하고 물감과 질감이 어우러져 만들어내는 "뜻밖의 즐거움"을 만끽하는 도전을 좋아합니다. 탐색 과정은 몇 시간, 며칠, 심지어 몇 주가 걸리기도 합니다. 결국 만족스러운 그림은 오랜 시간 동안 진화해 온 결과물입니다. 저는 그림을 자유롭고 대담하게 표현하려고 노력합니다. 그림에 너무 많은 시간을 투자하면 필연적으로 너무 구조적이거나 세밀해져서 처음부터 다시 시작해야 할 것입니다. 저는 그림이 예쁘거나 알아보기 쉬운 형태로 보이기를 원하지 않습니다. 오히려 극적이고 신비로운 이미지를 담아내고 싶습니다.
저는 캐나다 미술가 연맹(Federation of Canadian Artists, SFCA)과 캐나다 미술가 협회(Society of Canadian Artists, CSA)의 정회원입니다. 혼합 매체 강좌를 가르치고, 전시회 심사위원으로 활동하며, 갤러리와 심사 전시회에서 꾸준히 작품을 전시하고 있습니다.
