The portrait is one of the oldest pictorial genres in history and it can be traced back to prehistoric times. Portrait painting is where a human figure is made the central focus of the work. Historically, portrait painting has often been the result of a commission from public or private personalities. Today these works have become like witnesses to history. Early modern portraits were often painted in oil, but modern and contemporary artists now work with a variety of mediums, such as acrylic, watercolor, pencil and even collage. Many are intended as photorealistic portraits, while others are impressionistic or even on the boundary of abstract painting. However, contemporary portraits are usually figurativeand capture an artist's impression of an individual. Over time, portrait painters have gained more and more creative freedom in their work, creating an original and varied work.
Today portrait painting remains a tradition that many artists perpetuate and re-invigorate. SINGULART's contemporary artists allow you to appreciate the diversity of portraiture: the French artist Ewa Hauton focuses on the body in motion, for example, offering a dynamic and expressive painted portraits of women. Vincent Bardou portrays in his paintings the portraits of cultural icons in a street art inspired style. The French painter François Pagé is a figurative storyteller who, through his portraits of women, creates poetic and colorful works, while the artist Chibuike Uzoma uses bright colors in his portraits on canvas where he often obscures the faces of his subjects.
