The History of Portrait Painting
The portrait is one of the oldest pictorial genres in history and it can be traced back to prehistoric times. Portrait painting is where a human figure is made the central focus of the work. Historically, portrait painting has often been the result of a commission from public or private personalities. Today these works have become like witnesses to history.
