About this artwork
These days, I often hear people lament, "I wish we could just return to normal". That thought inspired this painting where a young woman in a scarlet dress holds a basket of daisies. She's standing on cracked earth in a barren setting. Before her, there is a stone archway and through the pillars, we see a field of daisies on a green meadow set against a cloudy, blue sky. This painting evokes a powerful narrative of hope, possibility and the pursuit…
of growth despite adversity. The woman, standing with her back to the viewer, invites speculation about her emotions - whether it's anticipation, contemplation or resolve - adding an element of mystery to this surreal setting. The archway serves as a visual metaphor for transition and the promise of renewal. Will she re-enter the portal through which she supposedly came? Or is there another story here, waiting to be told?

Tom Blood is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been exhibited in the United States. Inspired by surrealism, especially by the works of René Magritte, many of his paintings have featured a man in a bowler hat, which is part of his on-going homage to the Belgian master. Blood enjoys painting "what seemed like it couldn't be, only it looked like it actually was".
