Mr. Brainwash
Mr. Brainwash has an unusually legible market, because the same authentication system runs across his originals and his editions. His original canvases and unique mixed-media works trade actively and, like his prints, are hand-signed on the front, carry his thumbprint, and bear a dollar-bill-style serial number matching the number on a certificate of authenticity issued directly from his Los Angeles studio, often with his "Life is beautiful" inscription on the reverse. Much of his editioned output blurs the line between print and original: screenprints on hand-torn archival paper, hand-finished by the artist with spray paint or acrylic, so no two are quite identical. The serial-to-certificate match is the first thing a specialist checks. One caution worth carrying: plate-signed posters, meaning a printed rather than hand signature, are a separate, much lower tier and shouldn't be confused with the hand-signed, thumbprinted works. At Singulart, we work with specialist galleries that handle the authentication process, so every street art work by Mr. Brainwash, unique or editioned, is verified for these markers and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
