제가 수채화를 처음 접한 것은 16살 때 허더스필드 건축대학에서 건축학을 전공하면서였습니다. 당시 학생들은 입면도에 수채화 물감을 칠하는 데 사용했습니다. 저는 수채화에 매우 열정적인데, 미술계에서 수채화가 너무나 과소평가받고 있다고 생각합니다.
저는 제가 그리려는 대상을 직접 경험하는 것을 중요하게 생각합니다. 그래서 풍경을 직접 방문하거나, 초상화 의뢰를 위해 그림을 그린 사람을 직접 만나기도 합니다.
작업 방법
가끔은 풀 에어 페인팅(plen air painting)도 즐기지만, 제 작업은 대부분 스튜디오에서 이루어집니다. 제가 직접 만든 이젤에 걸터앉아 아이맥 화면의 이미지를 활용합니다. 아이패드 카메라를 사용하는데, 특히 인물 사진에서는 아이패드의 다양한 촬영 기능을 활용하여 자연스러운 순간을 포착한 사진을 선택합니다.
아래 섹션인 스튜디오에서는 이젤을 시연하는 영상과, 스튜디오에서 이젤을 사용하여 데모 그림을 제작하는 모습을 보여주는 짧은 영상을 볼 수 있습니다.
