머나먼 세계를 그리는 떠돌이 화가
도쿄에서 태어나 일본과 베트남에서 자란 저는 이후 아프리카, 영국을 거쳐 20년 동안 인도에서 살았습니다. 이 모든 곳들은 단순한 여정의 경유지가 아니라, 제 안에 저마다의 색채와 리듬을 남긴 임시 고향과도 같았습니다. 저는 제게 깊은 인상을 남긴 것들을 그립니다. 새벽녘 갠지스 강의 굽이, 라다크의 미네랄 빛, 아이슬란드의 황야, 라자스탄 시장의 황혼, 인도 고전 음악의 명상적인 분위기 등이 그것입니다. 때로는 현실이 상상으로 바뀌기도 합니다. 바다로 향하는 고아의 방들, 속삭이는 정글, 음악가, 라자, 요가 수행자들의 유머러스한 초상화처럼 말입니다. 제 화풍은 즉흥적이고 표현주의적이며, 직관에 따라 색채, 감정, 기억으로 빚어집니다. 저는 제 안에 계속해서 살아 숨 쉬는 머나먼 세계를 기리기 위해 그림을 그립니다.
