A curation by Rita Cerciello, Founder & Senior Curator at Independent Art Advisory - "To be whole, be multiple." — Fernando Pessoa
What does it mean to inhabit a single body while possessing a thousand souls? In this curation, "A Single Multitude," I invite you to step into the fragmented space of Fernando Pessoa’s universe. This collection is an exploration of 'heteronymy'—the poet’s legendary construction of distinct identities, each occupying its own psychological territory.
Opening with Daniela Volpi’s evocative 'in bilico,' which captures the very essence of an existence suspended between multiple selves, I have gathered 32 contemporary masterpieces that act as visual echoes of Pessoa's interior world.
In my selection, the artworks define the different spatial dimensions of his various identities: from the mechanical, modern friction of Álvaro de Campos, to the stoic, classical clarity of Ricardo Reis, and the hazy, golden saudade that fills the rooms of Bernardo Soares.
In this collection, the portrait is never a mere face; it is a 'Quiet Reassembly' of thoughts and shadows. Through textured abstractions and metaphysical landscapes, I have sought to map the sublime restlessness—the Desassossego—of the modern spirit. I invite you to lose yourself in these inner geographies, where every fragment is a truth and every silence is a crowd.
