Cubism

With its interest in simultaneously flattening the picture plane and including multiple perspectives at once, Cubism revolutionized the modern art scene of the 20th century.

First becoming present in Cezanne’s later works, particularly his landscape paintings of the Provence countryside, Cubism became fully realized by artists such as Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso who became fascinated with African art.

Cubism went on to inspire many other art movements, such as Fauvism, made famous by Matisse, and Dadaism, popularized by Salvador Dali and Marcel Duchamp.

The influence of Cubism remains strong, particularly amongst our sculptors at SINGULART, as Cubism's reduction of form into its most basic geometric shapes provides an endless source of inspiration and technical challenge.
